A diamond’s light performance is a measure of its interaction with light. Light performance is the most accurate and comprehensive way to determine a diamond’s visual appeal, and also its uniqueness. Beyond the 4Cs, light performance adds a new dimension to diamond grading. It provides a rich, comprehensive and objective view of a diamond’s visual beauty.

WHAT FEATURES OF THE DIAMOND AFFECT ITS LIGHT PERFORMANCE?

In the world of gemstones, diamonds are supremely precious.
But what makes one diamond more valuable than another? As a diamond’s value is based mainly on its rarity in relation to other diamonds, Sarine has pioneered automated objective 4C’s grading to ensure a consistently precise way to determine a diamond’s real value.

CUT & LIGHT PERFORMANCE

Light performance is affected by the diamond’s natural characteristics, its birthmarks, clarity grade, color grade – and, above all, its unique cut.

CLARITY, COLOR & LIGHT PERFORMANCE

Clarity affects the amount of light returned back from the diamond, and is influenced by the size, type and location of inclusions and birthmarks. Lower color grades affect the hue of light returned. Whiter, brighter color grades enhance a diamond’s light performance.

HOW DOES THE DIAMOND RECEIVE ITS LIGHT PERFORMANCE GRADE?

STAGE 1

Each of the 4 parameters are graded according to 5 levels:
EXCEPTIONAL, VERY HIGH, HIGH, STANDARD, MINIMAL.

STAGE 2

Based on the individual parameters’ measurements, the diamond is given a total Light Performance grade. The final grade provides an accurate assessment of the beauty of a diamond, on a scale ranging from Low to Ultimate. The grades are divided into sub grades using a star system.
